General Motors kicked off 2025 with a major surge in sales, reporting a 17% jump in U.S. deliveries for the first quarter—a performance that saw solid double-digit gains across each of its four major brands.
The automaker not only maintained its stronghold on the full-size pickup and SUV markets but also claimed leadership in total, retail, and fleet sales for the quarter, outperforming all other major manufacturers in the U.S. auto sector.

The company’s push into electric vehicles is also gathering serious momentum. GM expects to hold its spot as the second-best seller of EVs in the U.S., with electric vehicle sales skyrocketing 94% year-over-year.
Much of that growth was driven by Chevrolet, which saw overall sales climb 14%, marking its most successful first quarter since 2019. Chevy has emerged as the fastest-growing EV brand in the country, largely thanks to rising demand for the Equinox EV and Blazer EV models.

Cadillac’s retail sales climbed 21%, while its EV segment grew by 37%, underscoring a strong appetite for electric luxury vehicles. GMC set a personal record for its best-ever first quarter, posting an 18% increase in sales.
Meanwhile, Buick turned in its strongest quarterly performance since 2006, with a sharp 39% boost in deliveries.
Rory Harvey, GM’s executive vice president and president of global markets, attributed the across-the-board growth to the company’s expansive product lineup.
“GM’s sales growth outpaced every other major automaker, and the driving force is our portfolio,” he said. “We’re the industry leader in trucks and affordable small SUVs, Cadillac is growing significantly in luxury, and we have the broadest portfolio of EVs in the industry.”
The figures highlight GM’s strategic advantage in offering a wide spectrum of vehicles—from budget-friendly compact SUVs to high-end electric models—positioning it well for the next phase of competition in the evolving automotive landscape.
