The Nissan Leaf, once a pioneer in electric vehicles, has become known for its low price, limited range, and outdated design. However, Nissan is preparing to revamp the Leaf, with the 2026 model inspired by the sleek “Chill Out” concept.
Patent filings reveal a coupe-style crossover with a fastback design reminiscent of the Polestar and Mustang Mach-E, while the front features styling cues from Nissan’s Ariya EV.

Though the “mobile lounge” interior from the concept won’t make it to production, the new Leaf may still include modern touches like a full-length LCD display and sunroof.
It’s expected to share the Ariya’s CMF-EV platform, allowing for dual-motor all-wheel drive, and will feature a battery with 30% more energy density, improving its range by 25% to around 265 miles, though it will still fall short of 300 miles.
The Leaf will maintain its affordable pricing, likely starting around $33,000, but its U.S. production may end due to the loss of federal tax credits. Instead, Nissan is focusing on European markets, upgrading its Sunderland plant to produce up to 100,000 Leafs annually.
With a refreshed design and enhanced features, the Leaf aims to stay competitive in the growing budget EV segment, particularly in Europe.
