A Range Rover owned by the late George Michael is for sale for £15,000 – but there is a bit of a catch.

It was bought new by the Wham! singer back in 1997.

He had the 180mph, HSE Auto model until his death in 2016, aged 53.

The 4×4 has remained in the ownership of his family ever since.

Now fans of the Careless Whisper star have the chance to snap up his old SUV.

But the drawback is the Range Rover doesn’t currently start.

Despite looking in good nick for its age, the 28-year-old vehicle would be considered a project car after being in storage for the past eight years.

This is due to the numerous warning lights in evidence on the dashboard display which prevent the engine from turning over.

The Range Rover is finished in a Grey Metallic exterior with a slick grey leather interior.

At the time of sale, the car has 83,308 miles on the clock.

The motor is kitted out with a 4.6 litre, 8-cylinder engine.

But there are some personal features.

Hung on the rear-view mirror is a gold cross pendant, similar to ones Michael was often seen wearing on stage.

The sale also comes with the private registration for the singer ‘H11 YOG’ referring to his nickname ‘Yog’, as reported by Luxury Auto News.

The car is estimated to make up to £15,000 at auction with all proceeds of the sale going to charities he supported.

A spokesperson for Bonhams Cars, which is hosting the sale, said: “On the face of it, this is just a 1997 Range Rover 4.6 HSE that’s light on history, hasn’t been driven for years and, cosmetically, has seen better days.

“But that’s all pretty much irrelevant, because this car belonged to one of the most famous and successful recording artists the world has ever known.

“The V5C tells us that this car had just one owner from new and that the owner in question was Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, better-known to all who loved him and his music as… George Michael.

“The car has been brought to us by a family friend on behalf of the George Michael estate.”

They added: “There are numerous warning lights in evidence on the dashboard display, including one stating ‘Gearbox’.

“And another with an icon of a car raised on a ramp – a symbol we interpret as meaning ‘Get this vehicle into a workshop sooner rather than later’.

“Now, it might be that these messages don’t point to anything particularly significant.

“And it might be that they do. We don’t know.

“Either way, the car’s ECU has acted upon these warnings and decided that it won’t allow the car to be started or the engine turned over.”
