Cadillac’s Entry into Formula 1
This ambitious initiative underscores GM’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries in motorsports while showcasing Cadillac’s innovation on a global stage.
F1’s cutting-edge demands will enable GM to advance technologies in electrification, powertrains, software, and internal combustion engines, ultimately benefiting consumers worldwide. The project will also elevate the Cadillac brand to an international audience, cementing its reputation for performance and design.
GM President Mark Reuss expressed pride in the move, calling it “an honor” to join Formula 1. “This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level,” he said.
Collaboration with TWG Global and F1 Legends
The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will be built in collaboration with TWG Global, whose CEO Dan Towriss emphasized the partnership’s goal to bring American innovation to the sport.
Formula 1 legend Mario Andretti, the last American F1 Champion, joins the team’s board as a director, adding historic significance to the venture. “To still be involved at this stage of my life — I have to pinch myself,” said Andretti, reflecting on his lifelong connection to the sport.
Building a Competitive Foundation
Since its bid announcement in January 2023, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has assembled an experienced workforce specializing in aerodynamics, chassis development, software, and vehicle simulation. The team operates out of facilities in Indiana, North Carolina, Michigan, and England’s motorsport hub, Silverstone.
GM brings extensive motorsport pedigree to the project, boasting over 3,000 race wins and more than 100 championships. This expertise will be key in developing a competitive F1 operation that meets the rigorous standards of the series.
Broader Implications for GM
The innovations born from GM’s Formula 1 participation are expected to influence its consumer vehicles, reinforcing the company’s focus on high-performance technology and sustainability. The partnership also deepens TWG Global’s motorsport footprint, which includes Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports.
With its entry, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team sets out to make an indelible mark on the sport, combining American ingenuity with global motorsport excellence.
