The FW20 was subsequently used as a spare and test car for the remainder of the 1998 season.
Other iconic Williams racers like Juan Pablo Montoya, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Alex Zanardi, and Max Wilson have all driven the motor.
The 26-year-old car came third in the 1998 Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship, its highest-ever finish.
The vehicle is kitted out with a 3-liter Mecachrome V-10 engine that produces a whopping 750 horsepower.
The FW20 was launched after Williams had won a ninth consecutive Formula 1 Constructors’ crown.
The motor will now head under the hammer on 5 February 2025, as reported by Luxury Auto News.
The auction will take place at the Salles du Carrousel, Louvre Palace, Paris.
RM Sotheby’s, who is hosting the sale, stated: “A fantastic racer from the golden era of modern Formula 1, chassis FW20-03 is offered with a ‘show’ Mecachrome V-10 engine.
“It is highly eligible for historic racing events and demonstrations and would form a worthy cornerstone of any motorsport or Formula 1-themed collection.
“The car will be on display during the London auction at The Peninsula London on 1-2 November and will cross the block in Paris on 5 February 2025.”
