Dearborn, Mich., August 7, 2024 – Ford Pro has announced the nationwide shipping of the new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor® Utility (PIU), bolstering its position as America’s best-selling police vehicle. The latest model includes a standard hybrid powertrain designed to cut fuel costs and advanced safety and technology features to support law enforcement agencies.

The 2025 PIU stands out with its hybrid system, potentially saving up to 838 gallons of fuel per year by powering onboard equipment while the gas engine is off. This can result in savings of about $17,500 over six years, assuming fuel costs of $3.50 per gallon. Lindsey Bertino, Ford Pro Police Vehicle Marketing Manager, noted the hybrid powertrain’s popularity due to the long idle times officers often experience on patrol.

Key features in the 2025 PIU include the Police Perimeter Alert system, which enhances situational awareness by detecting threats and automatically activating the rear camera, sounding an alarm, and locking the doors. The Police Engine Idle feature allows officers to keep the engine running to power equipment while taking the keys with them, ensuring operational efficiency.

Safety remains a priority, with the PIU designed to meet Ford’s 75-mph rear-impact crash test standards. Optional ballistic panels provide additional protection, with Level III+ and IV+ options available to resist various ammunition types.

The PIU offers three powertrain options to suit different departmental needs:

  • 3.3-liter V6 hybrid (AWD): 318 horsepower, 322 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 3.3L V6 gas engine (AWD): 285 horsepower, 260 lb.-ft. of torque
  • 3.0L V6 EcoBoost® engine (AWD): 400 horsepower, 415 lb.-ft. of torque

New standard features include a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, Advanced Driver-Assist technology (Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS®, Rear Parking Sensors, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking), and the Police Perimeter Alert system. The manual Police Pursuit Mode and Police Dark Car feature further enhance operational effectiveness.

The Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System 2.0 simplifies vehicle customization, and advanced over-the-air capabilities ensure seamless updates. Integrated remappable switches and available lockable vaults provide additional functionality and security.

Each 2025 PIU comes with a standard Ford modem, with optional Ford Pro Telematics for real-time vehicle data, aiding fleet managers in maintenance and productivity.

The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is manufactured at the Chicago Assembly Plant and is part of Ford’s comprehensive law enforcement vehicle lineup, which includes the 2024 F-150® Police Responder®, Expedition®/MAX SSV, and Transit® Prisoner Transport Vehicle.
