Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology expands to 15 European countries, now available in 17 countries worldwide, covering over 82,744 miles of designated highways.

Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology has expanded its reach, now approved for use in 15 European countries by the European Commission. This development allows Ford customers to access over 82,744 miles of designated highways, known as Blue Zones, across Europe. Drivers can now embark on hands-free road trips across multiple countries, such as a journey from Sweden to Italy, covering nearly 1,864 miles and over 25 hours of driving without hands on the wheel.

With this recent approval, BlueCruise is now operational in 17 countries worldwide, including the U.S., Canada, and various European nations such as Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

Since its initial launch, BlueCruise has rapidly gained traction globally. In 2023, it became the first advanced driver assistance system to offer true hands-free driving at highway speeds in Europe, starting in Great Britain. Ford also pioneered this technology in Spain and introduced it in Germany, solidifying its leadership in hands-free driving.

BlueCruise aims to make driving less tiring and more enjoyable, whether in daily commutes or long road trips. According to AAA, people spend an average of one hour driving each day, which can be exhausting. BlueCruise alleviates this by enabling a more relaxed driving experience.

In North America, Ford has expanded BlueCruise to more vehicle models, including electric, hybrid, and gas-powered Ford and Lincoln vehicles, such as the 2025 Ford Explorer and 2025 Lincoln Aviator SUVs. Starting this summer, all Lincoln U.S. models will feature available BlueCruise.

U.S. customers have reported positive experiences with BlueCruise. Peter Lamarine, an F-150 Lightning owner, shared, “BlueCruise changed what was a completely boring, monotonous ride to something that is now enjoyable. The worst part of my day is work, and the best part is driving to and from work.”

Currently, there are over 420,000 BlueCruise-equipped Ford and Lincoln vehicles on the road globally. In the U.S. and Canada alone, customers have accumulated over 3.1 million hours and more than 213 million hands-free miles, equivalent to a round trip from Earth to the sun.
