Ford Motor Company and TXU Energy have introduced a groundbreaking energy plan for electric vehicle (EV) owners in Texas, offering free home charging for up to 18 hours a day. The TXU Free EV Miles program allows Ford EV drivers to charge their vehicles at no cost during off-peak hours, from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. the following day, by providing a credit on their TXU Energy bills.
This initiative aims to educate Texans about the benefits of driving electric vehicles and encourage charging during times of lower grid demand. Ford’s electric SUV and truck owners, including those driving the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Escape Plugin Hybrid, can easily schedule charging sessions using the FordPass app or the in-vehicle touchscreen to take full advantage of the program’s free hours. If charging is needed outside of these hours, customers will be charged a fixed rate, identical to the rate for the rest of their home energy use.

Bill Crider, Ford’s senior director of global charging and energy services, highlighted the dual benefits of the program: cost savings for customers and support for a more resilient electrical grid. The initiative also aligns with Ford’s broader goals of reducing operating costs for EV owners and exploring future vehicle-to-grid services.
In addition to free charging, Ford and TXU Energy are offering bonuses to participants: a $100 welcome bonus from Ford and a $250 incentive from TXU Energy for customers who remain enrolled for a year. The program is available to both current and future TXU Energy customers, and interested Ford EV owners can enroll online to begin receiving bill credits for their home charging costs.
Sam Sen, vice president of energy transition solutions at TXU Energy, expressed pride in the partnership, noting its role in promoting EV adoption and enhancing grid stability in Texas, a state that ranked third in EV sales nationwide in 2023.
Enrollment for the TXU Free EV Miles program is now open, offering a unique opportunity for Ford EV owners in Texas to significantly reduce their charging costs while supporting sustainable energy practices.
