Marc Basseng, a professional race car driver, tested the car’s speed at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany.

The driver hit an astonishing top speed of 272mph on the track, confirming the Aspark Owl as the fastest electric car on the planet.

Equipped with four hub-mounted motors that give the vehicle an amazing 1,953 bhp.

The all-wheel drive car is kitted out with a full carbon-fibre chassis and bodywork.

This Aspark Owl also holds two records confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.

It is the current holder for the highest average speed over both the one-eighth and one-quarter of a mile for an electric car.

Aspark started its electric car journey in 2005 and it was founded by Masanori Yoshida, specialising in engineering services for the motor industry.

The car currently located in Turin, Piedmont, Italy, is under the hammer with SBX Cars, as reported by Luxury Auto News.

The auction house described the car as: “The Aspark Owl is the newcomer that’s a heavy player in the emerging electric ‘hypercar’ category.

“It’s always a great spectator sport watching auto manufacturers attempt to outperform each other – the added dimension of choosing different methods of propulsion makes it feel like the best 3D chess game you’ve ever witnessed live.

“As the first version of the Owl, this example does have some mild cosmetic flaws but presents well.

“Aspark also completed a full mechanical inspection and upgrade to prepare it for auction. This is no rough mock-up, but a fully-realised hypercar that can be street driven.”
