‘Extremely rare’ 1965 Aston Martin favoured by James Bond is up for auction at £800,000

An extremely rare Aston Martin – one of only 123 ever made – is heading to auction.

The 1965 DB5 model is estimated to be worth upwards of £800,000 – but could reach £1m.

Powered by a 4.0-litre inline-six engine with a top speed of 148mph, the convertible has only had four owners.

The car’s starry reputation owes much to its seminal role in the James Bond films.

A Silver Birch model first appeared in Goldfinger as 007’s getaway car.

It returned a year later in Thunderball with Daniel Craig’s Bond behind the wheel.

This right-hand drive model comes in platinum with original red leather interior and Everflex soft top.

The car was first recorded as having been painted in Goodwood Green but the Heritage department at Aston Martin Works has since noted this has been changed to Platinum.

Thought to be the penultimate of the 123 produced, the motor also comes with chrome wheels, Motorola radio and a history file that includes a 1966-issued “buff” logbook.

A private seller from Taplow, Berkshire, is putting the motor up for auction through Sotheby’s, as reported by LuxuryAutoNews.

“Mention the Aston Martin DB5 and the epithet ‘the most famous car in the world’ frequently follows soon after,” the listing reads.

“Timelessly styled and instantly recognisable thanks to the model’s movie screen presence, this DB5 Convertible is a superb, immensely drivable and extremely rare example of the marque’s flagship in its most desirable, high performance, open-air form.”
