Mercedes-Benz has launched a significant upgrade to its MBUX Voice Assistant, integrating advanced AI features powered by ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing through the Azure OpenAI Service.

The AI-enhanced system enables context-aware conversations, allowing users to ask follow-up questions without needing to restate prior details.
For example, users can query how many Grammy Awards an artist has won and seamlessly ask when the first was received, with the assistant maintaining context for accurate answers. It also continues to handle practical requests, such as checking the weather, news, stock updates, or sports scores.
This feature is hands-free and integrates directly into the MBUX system, activated by saying “Hey Mercedes” or pressing the speech button on the steering wheel. Conversation history is stored for up to an hour, ensuring smooth and continuous dialogue.
The update is rolling out for free to over three million vehicles equipped with MBUX, initially supporting German, British English, and American English. Users from other regions can switch their system language to access the feature.
Mercedes-Benz prioritizes user privacy and safety with enterprise-grade security from Azure and anonymized voice data storage in its Intelligent Cloud. Measures are in place to minimize harmful or controversial responses, ensuring a safe and enjoyable user experience. This enhancement marks another step in Mercedes-Benz’s journey toward delivering hyper-personalized, intelligent in-car technology.
