Mercedes-Maybach and Robbe & Berking, two heritage-rich brands, have honored their shared values with a unique initiative: the creation of an exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class inspired by the legendary SPHINX 12mR yacht. The SPHINX, built in 1939 and renowned as the “night-blue beauty,” was the first classic wooden yacht restored by Robbe & Berking, leading to the founding of the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard in 2008. Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Flensburg silver manufactory, Mercedes-Maybach has crafted a refined S-Class model echoing the yacht’s elegance and timeless design.
The special edition Mercedes-Maybach S 680, with a combined energy consumption of 14.2-13.2 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 323-300 g/km, boasts a striking two-tone paint finish: nautical blue metallic on the upper section and MANUFAKTUR patagonia red bright on the lower section, separated by a delicate pinstripe in MANUFAKTUR opalite white metallic, mirroring the yacht’s white waterline.

This design pays homage to the craftsmanship, aesthetics, and elegance that both Mercedes-Maybach and Robbe & Berking embody.

Inside, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class features luxurious Maybach MANUFAKTUR Exclusive nappa leather in crystal white with diamond quilting, complemented by orion grey decorative stitching reminiscent of sail lines. The interior also includes exclusive wood walnut trim with light-colored aluminum strips, mimicking a ship’s deck, and custom nappa leather cushions. Other premium features include electric comfort doors at the rear, illuminated MANUFAKTUR door sill trims, the Burmester® high-end 4D surround sound system, MBUX high-end rear-seat entertainment, and a cooling compartment with two silver-plated champagne goblets from Robbe & Berking.
The SPHINX, part of the prestigious 12 Metre R class, was built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 1939 for the North German Regatta Association. This 21.48-meter yacht, known for its elegance and speed, was the last of its series and served various roles, including as a training ship for the German Navy under the name “Ostwind.” After changing hands multiple times, the SPHINX was acquired by Oliver Berking and friends in 2005, who meticulously restored it to its former glory, leading to the establishment of Robbe & Berking Classics. The shipyard has since become a renowned specialist in restoring classic yachts and building faithful replicas of lost classic boats.
