Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 40 years of its Marco Polo camper van with a special exhibit at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, showcasing the original 1984 Marco Polo. Visitors can explore this milestone in camping innovation from early December 2024 to the end of January 2025, with the exhibit located in the museum’s atrium.
The first Marco Polo, named after the Venetian explorer, debuted in 1984, built on the T1 “Bremer Transporter” model. Its iconic Bahama beige paint, beige-brown interior, and nearly three-meter height defined its standout appearance, making it a favorite among campers.

Since then, the Marco Polo has evolved through generations based on the Vito, Viano, and now the V-Class, continually enhancing its design, technology, and comfort.
The latest V-Class Marco Polo, relaunched earlier this year, redefines modern camping with its luxurious lounge-like interior, ambient lighting, yacht-inspired flooring, and high-end design elements.
Intelligent systems like MBUX multimedia and MBAC camper controls transform it into a smart, compact home on wheels. It also retains classic camping features such as a roof bed, kitchenette, and storage modules.
The Mercedes-Benz Museum’s special exhibit is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm, with tickets available until 5 pm. For reservations or inquiries, contact +49 711 17-30000 or email classic@mercedes-benz.com.
