The Lexus RC, celebrating its 10th anniversary, stands out as a milestone in the brand’s history, representing innovation, performance, and versatility. Introduced in 2014, the Radical Coupe (RC) became Lexus’ first mass-produced fixed-roof coupe since the SC model, carving a niche with hybrid technology, V8 power, and racing prowess.
A Hybrid Pioneer
The Lexus RC 300h was the brand’s first coupe to feature a hybrid drivetrain. Equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission, the hybrid RC delivered 223 hp to the rear wheels.

With a groundbreaking average fuel consumption of just 5.9 l/100 km, it redefined efficiency for sports coupes. The RC 300h laid the groundwork for Lexus’ dynamic hybrid lineup, including the LC 500h, and attracted nearly 14,000 customers.
The Thrill of the RC F V8
The RC F, unveiled in 2014, harnessed the raw power of a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8, producing 477 hp—the most potent V8 in Lexus history at the time. Sporting an active differential, launch control, and a retractable carbon fiber spoiler, the RC F combined extreme performance with everyday comfort. Over 12,000 units were sold globally.
The Track Edition took performance further, with lightweight components like carbon fiber panels, Brembo ceramic brakes, and titanium exhausts, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h.
Racing Glory with the RC F GT3
The RC F GT3 racing car, derived from the RC F, became a formidable competitor in the global GT3 category, earning victories at prestigious events such as the Daytona 24 Hours and the Japanese Super GT series. Featuring a 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8, carbon fiber construction, and a race-ready weight of 1,300 kg, the RC F GT3 continues to be a sought-after machine for private racing teams. Notably, it debuted at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024.
Design and Legacy
Beyond its powertrains, the RC captivated audiences with its bold design, inspired by the Lexus LFA, and luxurious interior, featuring high-quality materials for long-distance comfort. The model also underwent a facelift in 2018, with updates to its design, safety systems, and chassis. Over its decade-long run, Lexus sold 91,132 units of the RC, cementing its legacy as a unique and innovative model in the Lexus lineup.
From a fuel-efficient luxury coupe to a V8-powered sports car and a GT3 track champion, the Lexus RC embodies versatility, performance, and the spirit of radical innovation.
