BMW has unveiled its most powerful prototype to date—the BMW Vision Driving Experience—at Auto Shanghai 2025. Based on the design language of the Neue Klasse, this high-performance electric test vehicle is engineered to push the limits of driving dynamics.
At its core is the “Heart of Joy” central computer, exposed in the concept’s interior, which works with BMW’s Dynamic Performance Control software to orchestrate all driving functions with extreme precision.

With up to 18,000 Nm of torque, the car demonstrates unmatched power and control, aided by a downforce of 1.2 tonnes and lateral forces reaching 3g—levels typically seen in Formula 1.

Test drivers Jens Klingmann and Elias Houndtonji showcased its performance through dynamic maneuvers during BMW Brand Night. The VDX, as it’s called, also sports a luminous, self-illuminating paint that transitions from neon yellow to a gradient of orange and pink under UV light, emphasizing its futuristic aesthetics.

Though not destined for production, the vehicle’s technologies—especially the Heart of Joy computer—will power the upcoming Neue Klasse EVs starting later this year in Hungary, promising smoother braking, 98% regenerative stopping power, and heightened agility.

BMW says the VDX serves as the ultimate testbed for its next-gen driving systems, proving they can tame even the most extreme forces before heading to the road.
