BMW Group’s new manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary, has reached a significant milestone, beginning production of test vehicles for its Neue Klasse fully-electric X models. These near-series vehicles are now rolling off the line as the plant prepares for the start of series production by late 2025.
“This marks an important milestone in commissioning the new plant,” said Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG’s Board Member for Production. The production of test vehicles allows the facility to refine and optimize logistics and manufacturing processes under real-world conditions.

Preparing for Full-Scale Production
The process of producing near-series vehicles is a critical step in preparing for mass production. Test vehicles undergo the same rigorous production steps as series models, with all logistics processes, manufacturing tools, and employee workflows being carefully tested and adjusted.
Daily deliveries of materials and parts keep the plant running smoothly, while cutting-edge digital production systems are validated to ensure efficiency and reliability. Insights gained during this phase will be used to refine operations and address any potential challenges before full-scale production begins.
Training and Integration
As production ramps up, new staff at the Debrecen plant are receiving intensive training on advanced machinery and installations. This collaborative approach across production areas ensures a seamless transition to series production.
The Debrecen facility is central to BMW’s vision for the Neue Klasse, which represents the company’s next generation of electric vehicles, expected to set new benchmarks in sustainability and innovation.
The fully operational plant will play a key role in BMW’s electrification strategy, with series production of the Neue Klasse X models on track to begin by the end of 2025.
