The BMW Group is the first automaker to receive the CCC Digital Key™ certificate, confirming its digital vehicle access meets the highest standards for secure and interoperable connectivity.

The BMW Group has become the first automotive manufacturer to receive the CCC Digital Key™ certificate from the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). This certification confirms that BMW’s digital vehicle access meets the CCC’s highest standards for secure and interoperable vehicle-to-device connectivity. The CCC is a cross-industry standardization organization dedicated to enhancing vehicle connectivity with smart devices globally, and BMW has been a leading member since 2017.

Alysia Johnson, President of the Car Connectivity Consortium, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “Certifying digital key solutions at every point of the vehicle-to-device ecosystem is imperative as we work to increase adoption and build trust among consumers and the industry at large. We’re proud to designate BMW as the first automotive manufacturer to be CCC Digital Key™ certified.”

We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration with CCC and regard the CCC Digital Key as an integral part of our current and future vehicle platforms.”

Pioneering Digital Vehicle Access

BMW has been at the forefront of digital vehicle access innovation. Since 2018, BMW customers have enjoyed the convenience of unlocking, locking, and starting their vehicles using the BMW Digital Key on their smartphones via Near Field Communication (NFC). In 2021, BMW introduced the BMW Digital Key Plus with the launch of the BMW iX, marking the world’s first use of ultra-wideband technology (UWB) for digital vehicle access. This advanced technology allows for additional functions, enhanced security, and greater convenience, as customers no longer need to remove their smartphones to access their vehicles. This innovation has been extended to the BMW compact class and the new MINI family.

The BMW Digital Key also offers the capability to share access with friends and family through conventional messenger services. The UWB-based digital vehicle access specification, developed by BMW and its partners, has been established as a global standard through the CCC.

Future Innovations and Commitment

The CCC Digital Key™ certification highlights BMW’s commitment to leading in digital vehicle access technology. BMW continues to drive innovation in this area, aiming to enhance the overall customer experience with secure and convenient vehicle access solutions.
