LONDON, July 13, 2024 – The highly anticipated BMW Classics concert returns to Trafalgar Square this summer, continuing the twelve-year partnership between BMW Group and the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO). This free concert, conducted by Duncan Ward, will take place on July 13 at 5pm, and will also be streamed globally on YouTube.
The 2024 concert opens with Emmanuelle Chabrier’s lively Joyeuse marche, followed by Brahms’ rhythmic dance piece, Rondo alla zingarese. A highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of beams.bellows.bounds, a new work by composer Joanna Lee, commissioned specifically for this event. This piece features LSO musicians alongside 50 young musicians from east London, part of the LSO Discovery programme. The concert will conclude with Stravinsky’s enchanting ballet score, Petrushka.

Composer Joanna Lee shared her excitement: “It is an honor to be commissioned by the LSO to compose for the LSO Discovery young musicians. beams.bellows.bounds is inspired by the vibrant life in Trafalgar Square. The piece highlights the importance of music and musicians, and I am thrilled for its premiere at BMW Classics!”
