Bentley’s fourth-generation Continental GT Speed is set to make its highly anticipated public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Following its remarkable achievement of an unofficial ‘Underwater Speed Record’—reaching 208 mph (335 km/h) through a tunnel—the car will be showcased both in coupe and convertible forms and will participate in the iconic Goodwood Hill Climb twice daily from Thursday to Sunday.
The record-setting GT Speed, known for its impressive performance and luxurious design, will be featured in a unique ‘FOShtank’ display at the festival. This custom-built glass enclosure, inspired by Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, will include a specially constructed fish tank.

The display will house a Tourmaline Green Continental GT Speed, surrounded by 1,400 liters of water and 30 Shubunkin goldfish, providing a playful nod to the car’s underwater speed record. An 80 mm thick acrylic sheet will contain the water, ensuring the safety and comfort of the fish, with an on-site aquarium specialist on hand to maintain the environment.
Additionally, a large outdoor LED screen will be installed to showcase the Underwater Speed Record launch film, along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the project. This display aims to celebrate the extraordinary feat achieved by the Continental GT Speed and offer festival-goers a glimpse into the rigorous process behind the record attempt.
On April 18, the new Continental GT Speed achieved its record speed in Norway’s 14.5 km Ryfylke Tunnel—the longest and deepest sub-sea road tunnel in the world, descending to 292 meters below sea level. Equipped with Bentley’s Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, the car delivered an impressive 782 PS and 1000 Nm of torque, running on Coryton’s SUSTAIN second-generation renewable biofuel and electricity from Bentley’s solar panel array. This innovative powertrain not only enhances performance but also reduces CO2 emissions to 29 g/km, showcasing a blend of extreme performance and eco-friendly technology.
The record attempt required meticulous planning and preparation over 13 months. Bentley secured the Ryfylke Tunnel for its straight, smooth, and lengthy characteristics, essential for the high-speed run. With the support of the Norwegian highways authority and local police, Bentley obtained the necessary permits and ensured the safety of the project.
Using Computational Fluid Dynamics, Bentley’s engineers simulated the aerodynamic challenges of driving at top speed in a confined tunnel. The simulations revealed an 11% increase in aerodynamic drag and unique loadings on the car due to shock waves and airflow around the tunnel walls. To mitigate these effects, the team ensured the car was driven precisely in the tunnel’s center, avoiding the suction effect from the tunnel walls.
The specially prepared Vmax car, featuring a roll cage and bucket seats, was equipped with 22” Pirelli tires that were x-rayed for any imperfections. Driven by former British Rally champion Mark Higgins, the car reached its top speed of 335 km/h in just 33 seconds, maintaining this speed for the film director Jon Richards.
The 2025 Continental GT Speed will be available in both coupe and convertible versions, featuring an array of advanced technologies and luxurious details, making it a standout in Bentley’s lineup. As it takes center stage at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, attendees will witness firsthand the blend of heritage, innovation, and performance that defines this remarkable vehicle.
