Each Bentley with a satin finish undergoes a meticulous painting process, taking up to 55 hours. The process begins with the car in its gloss color, followed by hand-sanding, cleaning, masking, and additional cleaning before a clear lacquer is hand-applied in two stages to achieve a uniform satin finish. This detailed work is carried out by craftsmen and women in Bentley’s Excellence Centre for Bespoke Paint.
Every car is inspected and approved by an independent Production Quality Team, ensuring it meets Bentley’s high standards. Starting in 2025, this process will take place in Bentley’s new state-of-the-art Paint Shop.
The development of these satin finishes occurs at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, England. A team of experts ensures each color undergoes rigorous testing, reflecting Bentley’s commitment to quality and durability. Unlike gloss finishes, satin paints scatter light particles across the car’s surface, highlighting the styling lines uniquely.
The expansion of satin paint options is part of Bentley’s broader strategy to offer limitless customization through its Mulliner division. In 2023, 75% of Bentley customers added Mulliner content to their cars. The new satin finishes are available across all Bentley models, including the Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible, Bentayga, Bentayga Extended Wheelbase, Flying Spur, and the recently announced Mulliner Batur Convertible. Additionally, customers can commission entirely bespoke satin colors with the help of Mulliner’s in-house design team.
