Mercedes-Benz’s DRIVE PILOT system for highly automated driving has received the prestigious “Golden Steering Wheel 2024” award from Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag, marking it as the year’s top automotive innovation.

Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius accepted the award at the gala ceremony held on November 7, 2024, at Berlin’s Axel Springer House.

According to the editorial team, this latest DRIVE PILOT update brings Mercedes a step closer to fully autonomous driving, positioning the German automaker as a leader in advancing this technology globally.

Ahead of the award, Mercedes-Benz showcased the new DRIVE PILOT capabilities to selected media in a September press event, where Auto Bild and Bild am Sonntag were able to experience it firsthand.

The updated system can now autonomously follow a vehicle on highways at speeds of up to 95 km/h under certain conditions, significantly enhancing the value and convenience for its customers.
