Audi has achieved a milestone in its electrification journey with the launch of production at Audi FAW NEV Company, a joint venture with long-time partner FAW, focusing exclusively on fully electric models for the Chinese market.
The state-of-the-art Changchun plant is the first in China to produce electric Audi models on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), starting with the Q6L e-tron series and soon, a localized version of the Audi A6 e-tron.

The plant represents a core component of Audi’s “in China, for China” strategy. With an annual capacity exceeding 150,000 vehicles, it integrates advanced technology, including digital twinning for efficient design and a fully automated manufacturing system.
The facility features over 800 robots, a driverless logistics system, and sustainable energy solutions, including solar panels and biomass heating, ensuring net carbon-neutral operations by 2025.
Localized production ensures the models cater to Chinese market preferences, with innovations like extended wheelbases and bespoke digital experiences. The Q6L Sportback e-tron combines SUV functionality with coupe-like elegance, highlighting Audi’s focus on tailored offerings.
Sustainability is integral to the plant, with closed-loop recycling, water conservation measures, and efforts to enhance biodiversity, including beehives and eco-sensitive landscaping. In addition, a nearby supplier park and a 90% localization target emphasize Audi’s commitment to building a regional industrial ecosystem.
This move is pivotal for Audi’s electrification strategy, strengthening its portfolio in collaboration with local partners FAW and SAIC while highlighting its dedication to sustainability and innovation in one of its most important markets.
