The Volkswagen Team Switzerland, led by long-distance driving expert Felix Egolf, achieved an impressive feat with the all-electric ID.7 Pro S, covering 794 kilometers on a single battery charge.

This distance significantly exceeded the model’s official WLTP combined range of up to 709 kilometers. The journey took place over two days, with eight drivers covering a roughly 81-kilometer circuit in the Zug area, near Zurich.

The route consisted of everyday driving conditions, including highways, country roads, and hilly terrain, with an average consumption of just 10.3 kWh/100 km—well below the model’s lowest WLTP value of 13.6 kWh/100 km. This efficiency is roughly equivalent to 1.1 liters of diesel per 100 km.

The ID.7 Pro S, equipped with various optional features like the Comfort package and IQ.DRIVE assist systems, achieved this range in normal traffic with an average speed of 51 km/h.

Notably, it wasn’t even the most range-optimized variant of the model, which has a WLTP range of 700 kilometers. After completing the journey, the car still had a remaining range of 2 kilometers.

Felix Egolf, a “hypermiler” known for maximizing electric vehicle range, has previously set records with the Volkswagen ID.3. His expertise in energy-efficient driving played a key role in pushing the ID.7 Pro S beyond its standard capabilities.

The ID.7 Pro S is known for its efficiency and aerodynamics, boasting a drag coefficient as low as 0.23. It supports fast charging, with the ability to add around 244 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes at 200 kW.

The vehicle’s Electric Vehicle Route Planner further enhances efficiency by optimizing routes based on real-time traffic and available charging stations.
