Alex Knollenberg knows performance-driven EVs better than most. As an early adopter of the Polestar brand, having owned the Polestar 1, 2, and now the Polestar 3, he’s experienced firsthand the evolution of these vehicles.

We caught up with him during a recent track day in southern Sweden to chat about his passion for Polestar, its unique handling, and why these cars attract so much attention.

“You can’t park a Polestar without someone stopping to ask about it,” says Alex, describing the Polestar experience in the U.S. With the brand still growing in North America, he explains that owning a Polestar feels like being part of something new and exciting.

“You feel like you’re an ambassador for the brand,” he says, reflecting the pride that Polestar drivers often share in promoting the brand’s cutting-edge design and performance.

Alex’s enthusiasm comes from more than just a love for cars—his background in mechanical engineering gives him a deeper appreciation for the technical aspects of Polestar vehicles. “The instant torque, the horsepower, it’s amazing to have that kind of power available on the road,” he explains.

But his recent visit to Sweden offered more than just thrilling track time; it was a chance to meet the engineers and test drivers behind the cars. “Getting to talk to the people who develop these vehicles was a highlight.”

Owning all three Polestar models is a rare feat, but for Alex, the journey from the Polestar 1 to the Polestar 3 has been a natural progression. “We’ve followed the brand since the Polestar 1 was announced,” he recalls. What he appreciates most is the blend of design, performance, and what he calls “quiet luxury.”

After years with the Polestar 2, upgrading to the Polestar 3 felt like the right move for him and his wife. “The Polestar 2 was perfect—compact, fun to drive, with great performance. But the Polestar 3 is a big step up, not just in size but in performance as well. For an SUV, its handling is incredible.”

As one of the first to own a Polestar 3 in North America, Alex often finds himself driving one of the few on the road, turning heads as he goes. But it’s the car’s performance that excites him the most. “The torque vectoring system is amazing.

I’ve tried it out on the road—maybe pushing it a bit on the roundabouts—but getting to feel it on the track was something else.” He admires the confidence Polestar has in putting its new SUV through track tests, something not typical for most SUVs.

But then again, as Alex points out, the Polestar 3 is far from your typical SUV.
