McMurtry Automotive has partnered with About
to test and model the high-performance battery pack for its upcoming Spéirling PURE hypercar. The Spéirling fan car, notable for its record-breaking 39.08-second run at the Goodwood hill climb in 2022 and its astounding 0-60mph time of 1.4 seconds, will have an even faster production version available for just under £1 million.
The PURE model will be powered by the Molicel P50B, a 5.0Ah 21700 form factor lithium-ion cell boasting one of the highest power densities globally at 260Wh/kg. About
will test and model the unique performance metrics of the P50B upon its release later this year. This data will enable McMurtry engineers to integrate the performance characteristics into the design and simulations of the PURE’s battery packs.

Gavin White, co-founder and CEO of About
, emphasized the importance of their collaboration with McMurtry, stating, “We’re working in parallel with McMurtry on the quickest and most in-depth battery knowledge transfer to date to accelerate the development process of McMurtry’s vehicles. Our aim is to eliminate the need for costly and time-consuming in-house battery testing by providing companies and their engineering teams with direct access to world-leading advanced battery intelligence. This approach allows them to build better batteries and accelerate timelines by reducing reliance on physical testing.”
White shared that About
has been working with the Molicel P45B, the precursor to the P50B, for the past year. This experience will enable About
to deliver a battery model for the P50B to McMurtry within a month, allowing the team to optimize the battery performance for the PURE.
“This process will enable a team of world-leading engineers to spend less time testing batteries and more time developing world-class concepts and breaking records,” said White.
Kevin Ukoko-Rongione, chief engineer at McMurtry Automotive, highlighted the seamless integration between McMurtry and About
. He stated, “Working with About
feels like an extension to our in-house team. Their engineers are proactive in supporting us to make the most of the battery data and insights obtained from their world-class testing facilities. The benefit to us is a quicker time to market, and the benefit to our customers will be a battery pack with optimized performance and enhanced lifespan.”
