Meet Brian Gibbons, HR Director for Software and Services Engineering at General Motors. With a strong tech background from Microsoft, Cisco, and a decade at Apple, Gibbons is helping GM grow its top-tier tech team in Silicon Valley and beyond.
His journey started at Microsoft in 2006 with global M&A work. After moving to Cisco, he realized passion for the product mattered—routers weren’t it.

So when Apple came calling again, he jumped at the chance. At Apple, he worked with mobile device teams and later joined the special projects group, hiring for emerging areas and ensuring cultural alignment as Apple explored new industries, including automotive.

Why GM? “I wanted to be part of automotive history,” Gibbons says. “The shift to EVs and autonomy is the challenge of a lifetime, and there’s real pride in driving innovation here.” Collaborating with leaders like Kurt Kelty, who heads GM’s battery business, has deepened his commitment.
He’s passionate about hiring curious, persistent engineers from all backgrounds—people who challenge the norm and help push GM forward. “You’ll work alongside 30-year veterans and fresh hires like me. You’ll respect the legacy, but you’ll also be part of what’s next.”

Gibbons drives a Cadillac LYRIQ in emerald lake metallic and loves everything about it—from its bold design to its exhilarating performance. “I show it off to everyone—friends, former colleagues, even strangers at stoplights. It’s the kind of car that sparks conversation.”
As GM blends its storied history with bold innovation, Gibbons sees a culture leaning into the future. “This company is built on strong values, but it’s our curiosity that’s propelling us into an all-electric era.”
