Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute partner to advance general-purpose humanoid robots, combining robotics expertise and AI innovation to solve real-world challenges.

Boston Dynamics and Toyota Research Institute (TRI) have announced a partnership aimed at advancing general-purpose humanoid robots.

Combining Boston Dynamics’ expertise in robotics, particularly with its Atlas platform, and TRI’s cutting-edge AI, including Large Behavior Models (LBMs), the collaboration seeks to solve real-world problems through robotics innovation.

“This partnership brings together two leaders in AI and robotics,” said Robert Playter, CEO of Boston Dynamics. “We’re excited to work with TRI to accelerate humanoid development.” Gill Pratt, TRI’s CEO, added, “This collaboration holds enormous potential to improve quality of life through robotics.”

The partnership will focus on leveraging Atlas’ mobility and bimanual manipulation capabilities with TRI’s advanced AI models, including generative AI for dexterous manipulation. The joint research will also explore human-robot interaction and safety, aiming to push the boundaries of robotics in real-world applications.
