Nestlé Purina PetCare, in partnership with The Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) and Nikola Corporation, has launched its first zero-emission delivery using a hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-truck.
The truck, which produces no tailpipe emissions, made its inaugural journey transporting Purina products, including Tidy Cats cat litter, between Stockton, Maricopa, and Modesto in California. This initiative is part of Purina’s broader effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Travis Krous, Purina’s Senior Director of Supply Chain Operations, emphasized the company’s commitment to exploring new technologies to meet sustainability goals. KAG’s Class 8 Nikola truck has a range of up to 500 miles and can refuel in under 20 minutes, saving an average of 97 metric tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing 23 passenger vehicles from the road.
KAG’s Tyler Coventry expressed excitement about supporting Purina’s sustainability efforts, while Nikola’s CEO, Steve Girsky, highlighted the alignment of the partnership with Nikola’s mission of environmental responsibility.
At Purina’s Tidy Cats factory in Maricopa, sustainability efforts include solar drying technology for clay used in litter, reducing energy consumption, and packaging initiatives like using 100% recycled content in litter jugs by the end of the year.
