Toyota Motor North America reports September 2024 U.S. sales of 162,595 vehicles, with electrified models making up 48.4% of sales, marking a 22.4% year-over-year increase.

Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced U.S. sales of 162,595 vehicles in September 2024, marking a 20.3% drop compared to September 2023.

However, electrified vehicle sales accounted for 48.4% of total sales, with 78,683 electrified models sold—an increase of 22.4% from the previous year. The company’s third-quarter U.S. sales totaled 542,872 vehicles, down 8.0%, though electrified vehicles surged by 38.6% for the quarter.

Year-to-date, TMNA sold 1,729,519 vehicles in the U.S., representing a 6.2% increase. Electrified vehicle sales totaled 710,060 units for the year, up 56%, comprising 41.1% of overall sales.

Toyota Division saw a September decline of 21.1% in sales but achieved a 24.5% increase in electrified vehicle sales. Year-to-date, the division sold 1,481,319 vehicles, up 5.5%, with a 58% rise in electrified models. Best-ever September sales were recorded for several electrified models, including the bZ4X, Camry HEV, and Tacoma HEV.

Lexus Division posted a 14.5% decrease in September sales, though third-quarter sales rose by 8.1%. Year-to-date, Lexus sold 248,200 vehicles, up 10.7%, with electrified vehicle sales increasing by 43.7%. Notably, Lexus achieved its best-ever September and year-to-date results in several electrified and luxury utility vehicle categories.

Jack Hollis, EVP of Sales at TMNA, highlighted the success of electrified models: “Nearly 50% of our total sales volume was an electrified model, an achievement made possible by our outstanding team and dealers.”

TMNA’s performance reflects strong demand for electrified vehicles, even as overall sales figures dipped. Toyota and Lexus offer 30 electrified models, reinforcing their commitment to providing diverse powertrain options and supporting their pathway to carbon neutrality.
