Kia America wrapped up September with 58,913 units sold, driven by strong performances from its electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, which saw year-over-year gains of 43% and 11%, respectively.

Despite fewer selling days, Kia’s continued push for electrification paid off as four models—Sportage (+10%), Forte (+6%), Carnival (+5%), and Seltos (+2%)—achieved record year-to-date sales.

SUVs made up 74% of Kia’s September sales, with electrified models accounting for 17% of the volume. Kia’s Vice President of Sales Operations, Eric Watson, highlighted the brand’s leadership in the EV market, pointing to double-digit growth for its electrified models, despite the industry-wide slowdown in EV sales growth.

Watson also expressed confidence in Kia’s momentum heading into the fourth quarter, boosted by the launch of the K4 compact sedan and the first-ever Carnival Hybrid MPV.

Additionally, Kia announced key initiatives for its EV lineup, including the provision of North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for the 2024 and 2025 EV9 and EV6 models, giving customers access to over 16,500 fast chargers by early 2025.

Meanwhile, the all-electric EV9 GT-Line earned a spot on the 2024 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list, marking its second major award this year.

Kia’s environmental efforts also saw success with its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, helping remove over one million pounds of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch since 2022.

Looking at the numbers, while models like the EV9 and K4 are gaining traction, others such as the Rio and Stinger saw declines. Overall, Kia’s year-to-date sales totaled 584,170 units, slightly down from last year’s 604,674.
