Mercedes-Benz and Hydro have strengthened their strategic partnership by launching the Corridor Program, a long-term initiative aimed at supporting communities along the aluminium supply chain in Pará, Brazil.
Announced at New York Climate Week, the program focuses on decarbonization, social development, and environmental conservation, aligning with Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainability.
The Corridor Program covers the 244-kilometer bauxite pipeline operated by Hydro, which connects the Paragominas mine to the Alunorte refinery. The initiative brings together Mercedes-Benz, Hydro, local NGOs, and communities to improve economic, ecological, and social conditions in the region.
The program emphasizes human rights, biodiversity, and sustainable income generation, with local communities helping to identify and prioritize projects, ensuring they directly benefit from the initiative.
Mercedes-Benz’s goal is to merge commercial success with social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The Corridor Program focuses on three pillars:
- Economic Development: Enhancing conditions for raw material value chains and creating local opportunities.
- Social Development: Addressing basic human needs and improving the quality of life, especially in rural areas.
- Environmental Conservation: Protecting and regenerating biodiversity in the Amazon.
This collaboration builds on the companies’ shared decarbonization goals, with Hydro providing low-carbon aluminium and both partners aiming to minimize CO₂ emissions throughout the supply chain.
