Contrary to popular belief, Gen Z is not abandoning cars in favor of public transit. A new survey from Enterprise Mobility reveals that Gen Z and millennials are driving more than any other generation, with 47% of Gen Z and 41% of millennials reporting they drive more now than five years ago. This contrasts with lower increases in driving among Gen X (33%) and baby boomers (16%).

The survey highlights that, despite the rise in transportation alternatives, a majority of Americans still value privately owned vehicles for the “personal freedom” and “control” they offer. In fact, 73% expect personal vehicles to remain their primary mode of transportation over the next decade.

While there is excitement around autonomous vehicles (AVs), with 41% of respondents intrigued by the technology, 72% still prefer to be in control of their car. Additionally, the survey reveals that 68% of Americans believe the U.S. lacks sufficient infrastructure to support widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), with range anxiety being a significant deterrent.

Enterprise Mobility is actively addressing these concerns by investing in new technologies and services to improve mobility solutions and better support drivers in the evolving transportation landscape.
