2025 Genesis G80: A First Drive Experience with Enhanced Screen Technology

Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury division, has taken a quieter approach for 2025, making minor updates to its G80 sedan rather than major overhauls. Recently, we drove the refreshed 2025 G80 through Kentucky to see if these subtle tweaks are enough to keep the sedan competitive against newer models like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

What’s New The changes to the 2025 G80 are modest and mostly aesthetic. The front grille has a slightly wider weave, the bumper and headlights have been subtly redesigned, and most models now feature hidden exhaust pipes.

Inside, the biggest update is the introduction of a single, larger 27-inch OLED display replacing the previous dual-screen setup. The center stack has been rearranged to accommodate this, with new haptic buttons and traditional knobs for volume and temperature control.

Mechanically, the G80 remains unchanged, with the same 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 and 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engines, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Prices have increased, with the base 2.5T now starting at $59,000 and the fully loaded 3.5T Sport Prestige at $78,250.

Pros and Cons The G80 continues to impress with its luxurious interior, comfortable ride, and the improved maneuverability of the Sport Prestige’s four-wheel steering.

However, Genesis missed the chance to address some of the G80’s weaker points, such as the V6 engine’s lack of low-end power compared to German rivals and the steering’s vague feel. The new 27-inch screen, while visually appealing, adds little new functionality. Some existing issues, like taller drivers struggling to see the instrument cluster, remain.

Verdict While the 2025 Genesis G80’s updates are subtle, they enhance an already strong luxury sedan. However, those seeking more significant changes might want to wait for the 2026 Electrified G80, which promises to bring more substantial updates.
