Volkswagen is taking its ID.3 lineup to the next level with the introduction of the ID.3 GTX Performance. Building on the existing ID.3 GTX, which offers 210 kW (285 PS), the new GTX Performance variant ups the ante with 240 kW (326 PS), making it the brand’s most potent electric drive motor.

Both versions channel their power effectively to the rear axle, thanks to a well-engineered body and chassis design. The new 79 kWh battery, centrally placed in the vehicle’s floor, ensures a sporty low center of gravity and balanced axle load distribution, enhancing driving dynamics and handling.

Kai Grünitz, Volkswagen’s Development Board Member, likens the ID.3 GTX Performance to the iconic Golf GTI Clubsport, noting its responsive and commanding power delivery. He acknowledges the distinct characteristics of electric and turbocharged petrol engines but emphasizes the shared exhilarating acceleration experience between the two models.

The ID.3 GTX Performance showcases a robust engine, a large battery, and high charging capacity. Its Volkswagen Performance drive system has been upgraded to boost output from 210 kW to 240 kW. Both GTX versions generate a maximum torque of 545 Nm, surpassing the power of Volkswagen’s top V6 turbocharged engines.

The GTX Performance sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h, a first for the ID. family. The 79 kWh lithium-ion battery supports up to 185 kW of power at DC quick-charging stations, thanks to advanced charging and thermal management systems. This allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes, offering a WLTP range of up to 601 km.

In terms of handling, the GTX-specific running gear includes stronger stabilizers and is finely tuned to match the drive system’s high performance. The vehicle features a MacPherson front axle and a five-link rear axle with sophisticated guidance. Standard progressive steering has been adapted for the GTX, and the Sport DCC adaptive chassis control is available as an option. Enhanced by a newly configured Vehicle Dynamics Manager, the system better detects wheel and body movements to adjust shock absorbers through refined algorithms, ensuring precise handling and stability.

The ID.3 GTX and GTX Performance distinguish themselves with unique design elements. These include a GTX-specific front bumper with a black air intake in a diamond pattern and a customized signature light. Optional 20-inch Skagen GTX wheel rims in black and various interior features further set the GTX apart from other models.
