Street trucks are making a comeback after a 25-year hiatus, with the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo leading the charge. Traditionally, street trucks were small or compact pickups lowered and customized for performance and style. The Maverick Lobo embodies this mini-truckin’ spirit perfectly.

The Maverick Lobo is part of the Maverick’s extensive 2025 refresh, which includes an AWD hybrid powertrain, enhanced tech, and more. But let’s dive into what makes the Lobo unique.

What is a Ford Maverick Lobo?

If the name Lobo sounds familiar, you might recognize it from Mexico, where it’s the name for the F-150. “Lobo,” meaning “wolf” in Spanish, was trademarked in the U.S. last year, hinting at its stateside arrival. The Maverick Lobo is available in two versions, with the higher-end model sitting at the top of the range. Both versions are the lowest-riding in the Maverick family, lowered by 0.5 inches in the front and 1.1 inches in the rear.

Inspired by a Tucci Hot Rods Maverick build for the 2021 SEMA show, the Lobo sports a body-color rear bumper and side skirts, a black roof, and a unique front fascia and grille. It features striking 19-inch black monobloc-style wheels, with more traditional options available. Despite its stylish package, the Lobo misses out on some unique badging, such as a wordmark or a wolf’s head on the tailgate, and the fender garnish remains all black, similar to the entry-level Maverick XL.

Inside, the Lobo’s cabin stands out with Grabber Blue and Electric Lime contrast stitching on black upholstery, embossed with a pattern reminiscent of graffiti or the wall lighting on the Death Star.

Chassis and Performance

The Maverick Lobo enhances its performance using parts from Ford’s global catalog rather than bespoke components. The Lobo inherits the torque-vectoring rear differential from the Maverick Tremor, activated by selecting the Lobo mode, which also reduces stability control intervention.

It borrows front brake calipers and slightly larger front rotors from the European Focus ST, steering gear from the Ford Kuga SUV, upper strut mounts and steering rack bushings from the Mustang Mach-E, and cooling hardware from the 4K Tow package available on other AWD Mavericks. The suspension dampers are also retuned.

Under the hood, the Lobo is powered by the same 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine found in nonhybrid Mavericks, producing 238 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Notably, the transmission has been modified to a seven-speed automatic (down from eight) to accommodate the Lobo-exclusive paddle shifters, ensuring smoother and more immediate gear shifts.

Pricing and Availability

The Lobo promises a variety of accessories, with the aftermarket likely offering even more customization options. Although there is no confirmation on Ford Performance parts for the Lobo, it’s a logical expectation.

Two versions of the Lobo are available: standard-spec and high-spec. The high-spec model includes a heated steering wheel and seats, a 360-degree camera, a sunroof, Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver assist tech, a spray-in bedliner, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Hitch Assist. The standard-spec Lobo starts at $36,595, offering a solid foundation for further customization, while the fully equipped Maverick Lobo is priced at $42,090.

While you can’t reserve the $36K Lobo until later this year, the high-spec model is available for order now, with deliveries for both versions slated for early 2025, shortly after the release of the first 2025 non-Lobo Mavericks.
