2025 Ford Maverick: New Design and Introducing an AWD Hybrid Model!

Ford’s usually sharp instincts in the pickup market took an unexpected turn with the launch of the Maverick small pickup truck in 2022. However, this misstep turned out to be a surprising hit. The compact pickup became so popular that Ford sold out its initial run before any trucks even arrived at dealerships. In the first half of 2024, nearly as many Mavericks were sold (90,000) as in all of 2023 (94,000), highlighting its enduring appeal. The demand has been so high that used Mavericks are now fetching higher prices than new ones.

Determined to build on this success, Ford unveiled the 2025 Maverick with several updates based on feedback from its first quarter-million owners. Despite the enhancements, the Maverick still boasts the lowest starting price in the pickup market, though it’s not as cheap as it once was.

Hybrid Power Returns as Standard; AWD Now Available

The top request from Maverick owners has been for an all-wheel-drive hybrid option, which Ford is delivering for 2025. The new hybrid AWD will be available on XL, XLT, and Lariat trims, providing all-weather traction without compromising fuel economy. The front-drive hybrid is rated at 42 mpg in the city, while the AWD version is expected to achieve around 40 mpg. Ford has also reinstated the 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain as the standard across the lineup, although what was a $1,500 upcharge in 2024 is now $2,375 more for 2025.

Both the hybrid and EcoBoost versions retain their previous power outputs, with the hybrid offering 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque, and the 2.0-liter EcoBoost providing 238 hp and 277 lb-ft.

Glammed Up Inside and Out

The 2025 Maverick now features distinct grilles for each trim level, along with updated bumpers and headlamps. Higher trims receive premium LED projectors and accent lights. Inside, new colors and materials are featured, with the XLT’s previous orange accents replaced by Grabber Blue and the Lariat introducing a Smoke Truffle theme with bronze accents. The Black Appearance Package now includes a unique grille, black roof, black Ford badges, and distinctive 19-inch wheels.

More Standard Tech

While the original Maverick’s appeal included a low price without excessive tech, the 2025 model has broadened its tech offerings. A new 13.2-inch touchscreen replaces the standard 8.0-inch display, paired with an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster. This system includes Sync 4, enhanced voice recognition, connected navigation, and a 5G modem for over-the-air updates. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included. Additionally, Ford’s 360-degree camera system, standard on all models, offers improved safety features.

Enhanced Towing Ability

Towing capacity remains the same for 2025, with all Mavericks capable of towing a 2,000-pound trailer, and AWD models reaching up to 4,000 pounds with the 4K Tow package. This package includes a hitch receiver, 7-pin electrical connector, brake controller, transmission oil cooler, higher capacity radiator, upgraded cooling fan, and lower axle gear ratio. The maximum payload remains at 1,500 pounds for all models. Ford is also adding Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist as standard on Lariats and Tremors.

Tremor Stands On Its Own

The off-road-focused Maverick Tremor, previously an add-on package, is now a standalone trim above the Lariat. It continues to offer off-road enhancements like an off-road-tuned suspension, front skid plates, and unique 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. The Tremor now includes Ford’s 360-degree camera system and a one-pedal drive mode.
