The fourth generation of the Porsche Cayenne will be all-electric, marking a significant step in the brand’s commitment to electromobility. The first camouflaged prototypes are already undergoing rigorous testing as Porsche simultaneously develops powerful hybrid and combustion engine models. This move ensures that, well into the next decade, the Cayenne will be available with three distinct powertrain options worldwide.
For over 20 years, the Cayenne has epitomized the blend of Porsche’s driving performance, everyday comfort, and off-road capabilities. Future models aim to continue this legacy, incorporating the latest technological advancements. Porsche AG CEO Oliver Blume emphasizes the continued versatility of the Cayenne, stating, “In the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV. At the same time, our customers will still be able to choose from a wide range of powerful and efficient combustion and hybrid models.”

The current generation of the Cayenne, which received extensive upgrades last year, will continue to evolve with significant technological investments. Enhancements will focus on improving powertrain efficiency, particularly the V8 engine developed and produced at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen plant. These updates will ensure compliance with future legislative requirements.
Porsche’s commitment to electromobility is reflected in its product strategy, which aims to have over 80 percent of new cars fully electrified by 2030, depending on customer demand and regional developments. The all-electric Cayenne will play a crucial role in this strategy, built on the advanced Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture. This platform allows integration of the latest technologies in high-voltage systems, powertrain, and chassis, enhancing driving performance and efficiency.
Michael Steiner, Porsche AG’s Executive Board Member for Research and Development, highlights the innovation behind the new Cayenne: “We are going to utilize the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways – for instance, in driving performance.” The development goals include high-capacity charging, efficiency, and maintaining the renowned Porsche driving experience.
The transition to the fourth-generation Cayenne includes extensive real-world testing. After an extended phase of digital development and initial test drives at Porsche’s Weissach Development Centre, the first prototypes are now on the road. Michael Schätzle, Vice President of the Cayenne Product Line, notes, “By the launch date, prototypes will have completed several million test kilometres all over the world under extreme climatic and topographical conditions.” This thorough testing ensures the durability, reliability, and high quality of both hardware and software.
