After a stellar performance in Gymkhana 2022 and exhilarating runs at Goodwood’s 2022 and 2023 Shootout Hillclimbs, the legendary Travis Pastrana and the Subaru Family Huckster are set to dazzle the crowds again at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11-14. This time, they’re bringing some notable companions.

Joining Pastrana is Subaru Motorsports USA driver Scott Speed, a four-time rallycross champion who played a crucial role in developing the team’s successful rallycross machines. Speed’s impressive and varied racing career spans Formula One, NASCAR, and more. This July, he will be driving a never-before-seen machine known internally as “Project Midnight.”

Debuting at this year’s Festival of Speed, this yet-to-be-revealed marvel is unlike anything Subaru Motorsports USA has ever showcased at Goodwood—or anywhere else.

Its purpose differs significantly from the Family Huckster’s, but it shares the same wild essence in both design and performance. Project Midnight is set to astonish the crowd in a unique way, providing a striking contrast and a worthy companion to the Family Huckster.

Nonetheless, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Travis Pastrana and the Subaru Family Huckster to the hill in 2024. Last year, the broadcast announcer aptly described the Huckster as it approached the line: “Now here’s a really…strange machine.” This outrageous 1983 Subaru GL wagon, featuring carbon fiber panels, active aero, and an 862-horsepower turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine, has quickly become a crowd favorite at the Goodwood Festival. Pastrana’s remarkable Shootout times have positioned the Huckster among the fastest racing and experimental cars worldwide. In 2023, the Family Huckster finished second overall (first in class), trailing only the $4-million McLaren Solus GT track car, earning Pastrana his second podium finish at the hillclimb.
