A trucker is charging £1,000 for a special funeral service that gives drivers one last ride in a lorry-turned-hearse.

Niall Hutchingson transformed his £8,000 Volvo NH12 truck into a working hearse.

The 64-year-old who has been in the haulage business for four decades, spent two years perfecting the masterpiece.

Niall got the idea when one of his son’s workers asked if he could use one of the vehicles for his father’s funeral.

The pair built a deck to carry the coffin as a goodwill gesture.

But after more people started getting in touch, he turned it into a business called ‘End of the Line’.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be in profit but I just think it’s a good thing to do,” Niall, from Thetford, Norfolk, told Luxury Auto News.

“My son used to run six trucks and when the father of one of his drivers died he was asked if they could use his truck for the funeral.

“We built a deck to carry the coffin and people saw it and asked if they could use it.

“It was not convenient or cost effective to keep taking a working truck off the road so that’s where the idea came from.

“The full build took about two years, but most of that was to do with paperwork and technicalities and also lack of funds.

“The truck is now available at approximately £1000 but this is negotiable if someone really wants it and is short of money.”
