Subaru has earned top marks from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports in their 2025 list of best vehicles for teen drivers, with 14 models recommended across new and used categories.
The evaluation focused on safety, reliability, affordability, and handling, with Subaru’s lineup standing out for meeting strict crash test standards and offering essential safety features like automatic emergency braking and high-rated headlights.

Among new vehicles, the 2025 Subaru Ascent, Forester (excluding Wilderness trim), and Solterra were highlighted, each earning IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ designations.
For used cars, models like the Ascent (2021+), Crosstrek Hybrid (2019), Forester (2019+), Legacy (2020+), and Outback (2020+) were ranked as “Best Choices,” while older versions of the Crosstrek, Forester, Legacy, Impreza, and Outback made the “Good Choice” list.
Subaru was also named 2025’s Best Overall and Most Reliable Automotive Brand by Consumer Reports, with eight of its models—including the BRZ, WRX, and Impreza—recommended overall.
The brand has now accumulated 74 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards since 2013, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to safety and driver confidence.
