BMW showcases next-gen tech at Auto Shanghai 2025 with Heart of Joy, Panoramic iDrive, exclusive China models, and bold Neue Klasse innovations shaping the future of mobility.

BMW Group is spotlighting its next-generation innovations at Auto Shanghai 2025 as it builds toward the Neue Klasse era. “Innovative strength, a pioneering spirit and sheer driving pleasure – these characteristics are deeply rooted in BMW’s DNA,” said Chairman Oliver Zipse.

He confirmed the iX3 will become the first Neue Klasse model, launching from the Debrecen plant by year-end, with a China-specific version arriving in 2026.

At the heart of BMW’s showcase are two cutting-edge systems: the Panoramic iDrive, debuting in a China-specific version, and the Heart of Joy central computer, both tailored to deliver enhanced digital and driving experiences.

The China version of BMW’s OS X, developed with local partners, introduces exclusive features including a LLM-based Intelligent Personal Assistant co-developed with Alibaba, to be upgraded further with Deepseek’s AI.

The Heart of Joy system, built for BMW’s software-defined vehicles, is shown in action through the high-performance BMW Vision Driving Experience.

This test vehicle, with 18,000 Nm torque and 3G lateral forces, serves as a rolling lab to fine-tune BMW’s dynamic control systems. The car features a fluorescent paint and “magic film” that visually shifts color in response to light.

Inside, the Panoramic iDrive integrates the new BMW Panoramic Vision display and Operating System X, optimized for the Chinese market with 70% locally developed code. It will launch in 2026 in China, enhancing vehicle interaction with AI-driven features.

In line with its “China for China” approach, BMW is deepening collaborations with local tech leaders and advancing local R&D, making China the largest BMW R&D hub outside Germany.

BMW also premiered several exclusive models: the BMW 3 Series 50 Years Edition (limited to 2,500 units), the M4 Edition Nürburgring (limited to 53 units), and the locally produced M235L Gran Coupé – all tailored for Chinese customers and emphasizing performance, heritage, and luxury.

MINI joined the showcase with the latest John Cooper Works lineup and celebrated its motorsport legacy, including tributes to the Monte Carlo Rally and Nürburgring 24-hour race. Other MINI models on display include the Convertible, 3-door, 5-door, and Aceman variants.

BMW’s 5,000-square-metre exhibit also features the visionary Neue Klasse vehicles and the historical BMW 1500. Special highlights include Art Car #20 by Julie Mehretu, the color-shifting BMW i5 Flow NOSTOKANA inspired by Esther Mahlangu, and the Concept Skytop Roadster design study.

With over one million visitors expected, Auto Shanghai 2025 serves as the global stage for BMW’s bold vision of future mobility.
