Lucid plans to acquire Nikola’s Arizona facilities and hire 300+ former employees, expanding EV operations and accelerating production of its Gravity SUV and midsize models.

Lucid Group (Nasdaq: LCID) is expanding its footprint in Arizona with plans to acquire select facilities and assets from Nikola Corporation, pending approval from the U.S.

Bankruptcy Court in Delaware. The deal, which excludes Nikola’s business, customers, or hydrogen truck tech, comes in the wake of Nikola’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and auction on April 10, 2025.

As part of the move, Lucid will take over Nikola’s former Coolidge manufacturing site and Phoenix HQ and R&D center—together adding over 884,000 square feet of space.

These buildings come equipped with battery testing chambers, machining tools, and other advanced development gear that align with Lucid’s growth plans.

Lucid also intends to hire more than 300 former Nikola employees, offering roles in engineering, assembly, testing, and warehouse support across its Arizona operations.

The company says these additions will help accelerate production of the Lucid Gravity SUV and upcoming midsize EV models.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and state Senator T.J. Shope welcomed the news, highlighting the positive impact on local jobs and the state’s booming EV sector.

Lucid, known for its high-performance Air sedan and Gravity SUV, builds its vehicles at its vertically integrated Arizona factory and continues to push forward in EV innovation.
