A super rare vintage Aston Martin that is just one of 37 in existence is now up for sale.
This mesmerising 1965 Aston Martin DB Short-Chassis Volante is the rarest convertible ever made by the iconic brand.
This is also the first motor produced by Aston Martin to ever sport the vaunted Volante badge.

With only 36 other examples on the planet, this sale is a rare opportunity for punters to get their hands on this eye-catching ride.

Despite being 60 years old, the car retains its original matching-numbers all-alloy, twin-cam, straight-six engine.
After the arrival of the DB6 in 1965, Aston Martin was left with a surplus of DB5 chassis with the specifications of an outgoing model.

Instead of scrapping them, the Newport Pagnell factory created a convertible which combined the DB5’s sporting proportions with the style of the new DB6 model.
The example up for sale was sold brand new to a Joseph S Bath in London on 2 December 1965.

A previous owner had the motor refinished in an eye-catching dark green over beige leather.
This was before converting the car from right-hand drive to left-hand drive, an irreversible process.

The car is now up for sale at a whopping £632,000 in Milan, Italy, as reported by Luxury Auto News.

RM Sotheby’s who are hosting the sale stated: “As one of only 37 examples ever produced, this rarest of Aston Martin convertibles is highly prized among enthusiasts of the brand.

“New lettering on the boot lid also signified the automaker’s first use of the “Volante”—Italian for “flying”—nomenclature that remains a fixture six decades later.

“With recommissioning, it will undoubtedly make for a wonderful and welcome show piece at concours events.”
