IONNA, the nationwide EV charging network backed by General Motors and seven other automakers, has officially launched its first Rechargery in Apex, North Carolina, marking a major step in its mission to create a seamless, driver-focused charging experience.
The Apex Rechargery features 10 fast-charging bays supporting both NACS and CCS standards, with up to 400 kW charging capacity per bay.
Unlike traditional chargers tucked away in parking lots, IONNA’s locations are designed with amenities in mind, offering snacks, restrooms, complimentary WiFi, and pet-friendly facilities.

“This Rechargery delivers a dramatically improved experience, responding to what EV drivers actually want,” said Duncan Aldred, GM’s VP of Global Commercial Growth Strategies and Operations.
Wade Sheffer, VP of GM Energy, echoed the sentiment, highlighting IONNA’s focus on more charging bays, better reliability, and enhanced amenities.
The Apex launch is just the beginning. IONNA aims to have 1,000 live charging bays by the end of the year, with 100 sites already confirmed across the U.S. and expansion into Canada planned.
Future locations will also introduce AI-powered grab-and-go refreshments and a seamless plug-and-charge experience for GM vehicles.
“This isn’t just about putting chargers in the ground—we’re building an experience,” said IONNA CEO Seth Cutler. “With our OEM partners, we’re redefining what reliable charging looks like in North America.”
