The Polo L, presented in Oceanic Blue, showcases the car’s origins as a compact yet practical vehicle. At just 3.5 meters long and weighing 685 kilograms, the Polo L featured a 0.9-litre engine delivering 29 kW (40 PS) and a top speed of 132 km/h.
With its optional luxury “L” trim—including side moldings, carpeted floors, and a two-speed blower—it offered surprising sophistication for its time. Its roomy 900-liter capacity, thanks to a folding rear bench seat, exemplified its “Small size. Large space” ethos.
Joining the celebration is the 1977 hill climb Polo, an embodiment of the model’s sporty DNA. Restored after 20 years of racing, this one-of-a-kind Bali Green vehicle boasts a 1,300 ccm engine with 81 kW (110 PS), reaching a top speed of 150 km/h.
Modified with a shorter gear ratio and a safety roll cage, the car made its triumphant return at the Osnabrück hill climb race in 2022, thrilling motorsport enthusiasts.
The Bremen Classic Motorshow, running from January 31 to February 2, 2025, is a major event for classic car lovers, expected to attract 50,000 visitors from across Europe.
Both Polos will be on display at Stand D08 in Hall 5, alongside other historical exhibits from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Oldtimer, Audi Tradition, Škoda, and Autostadt Wolfsburg. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience automotive history and celebrate the Polo’s half-century legacy.
