First launched in 1978, the Prelude has been a favorite among automotive enthusiasts, known for introducing cutting-edge technologies like four-wheel steering and torque-vectoring systems.
The new Prelude Concept was unveiled in North America at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, following its global debut in Japan, showcasing Honda’s commitment to delivering a “joy of driving” in the electrified future.
The return of the Prelude coincides with Honda’s celebration of 25 years of hybrid vehicle sales in the U.S., beginning with the 1999 Honda Insight, America’s first hybrid model.
Today, electrified vehicles account for over 25% of Honda’s total sales, with hybrid versions of the Accord and CR-V making up more than half of their respective sales. The Prelude will join this growing lineup alongside the all-electric Prologue SUV and Honda’s expanding Honda 0 Series, which includes seven planned EV models by 2030.
This announcement reflects Honda’s broader electrification strategy aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, with 100% of vehicle sales expected to be battery-electric or fuel-cell models by 2040.
Honda also continues to innovate with next-generation technologies, which will be featured in upcoming Honda 0 Series models, including a new flagship set for 2026.
As a cornerstone of Honda’s U.S. operations, the company has been manufacturing vehicles in North America for over 40 years, with more than 99% of Honda vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2023 made locally. The Prelude’s return represents Honda’s dedication to blending performance, innovation, and sustainability in its electrified future.
