Liminal Cycles: A Visionary Installation

The centerpiece of “Liminal Cycles” is a dynamic sculpture resembling the LF-ZC prototype, crafted from 100% renewable and biodegradable Nuatan bioplastic. The structure reacts to UV light and environmental changes, subtly altering its color and mimicking breathing. The exhibit extends the concept of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), showcasing how cutting-edge software can offer deep customization and interactivity.

Accompanying the main piece are three smaller sculptures, each exploring sensory elements of the LF-ZC’s design:

  • Tactile Interaction: A flower-like sculpture, shaped like the LF-ZC steering wheel, changes sound intensity when touched.
  • Scent and Form: A chair inspired by the LF-ZC’s headrest emits a Lexus signature fragrance.
  • Environmental Reactivity: A lattice-like sculpture subtly reveals the Lexus logo when exposed to UV radiation.

A Celebration of Design and Innovation

Alongside the installation, Lexus debuts the Lexus in Design collection, a limited-edition series of 26 collectible items crafted by leading designers such as Germane Barnes, Suchi Reddy, and Tara Sakhi. Using materials like amber glass, gold leaf, recycled aluminum, and biodegradable plastic, the collection combines cutting-edge technology with timeless craftsmanship.

Limited-Edition Fragrance and Candle

Complementing the exhibit is a bespoke fragrance, available as a limited-edition dilo candle, featuring notes of blood orange, bergamot, cedar, moss, amber, and fir. Created with 100% US soy wax and phthalate-free ingredients, the candle embodies Lexus’ commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Inspiring Conversations and Continued Presence

As a partner of ICA Miami for three years and a participant in Miami Art & Design Week for nine, Lexus also hosts the Lexus Art Series: Art and Innovation Talks in collaboration with Whitewall magazine, offering thought-provoking discussions on art, design, and innovation.

Heather Updegraff, General Manager of Lexus International Strategic Communications, emphasized the project’s significance: “This year’s installation and collection showcase the potential of responsive technology, sustainable materials, and sensory design, offering audiences a tangible glimpse into the future.”

Through “Liminal Cycles” and its accompanying initiatives, Lexus continues to push boundaries in design, sustainability, and the future of luxury experiences.
