BMW Group Plant Steyr has shipped its first sixth-generation electric engines to BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, where they will be installed in Neue Klasse test vehicles. This marks a significant milestone in the development of BMW’s next-generation electric mobility.
Production of these advanced electric motors began at Steyr three months ago. “Our plant has been delivering the first sixth-generation electric engines to Munich’s development department since September. Now, we are supplying Debrecen for the assembly of test vehicles,” said Klaus von Moltke, SVP Engine Production at BMW AG.

Helmut Hochsteiner, VP of Electric Engine Production at Steyr, emphasized the ongoing optimization of the production process, stating, “This milestone brings us closer to the start of series production for the Neue Klasse and its Austrian-made electric motors.”
BMW Group Plant Steyr, BMW’s largest engine plant, employs 4,700 people and produces over one million petrol and diesel engines annually. It is also a key development hub for innovative drive systems, with plans to scale up e-drive production in 2025.
