BMW Group has launched production of the second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé at its Leipzig plant, adding to a portfolio that includes the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and the MINI Countryman.
This facility, which produces up to 1,300 vehicles daily, exemplifies BMW’s manufacturing flexibility by handling four models with three drive options across two brands on a single line. The new 2 Series Gran Coupé will reach markets in March 2025, featuring refined engines, advanced automated driving tech, and an updated, sporty design.

The second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé introduces enhancements, including a 25 mm increase in height and 20 mm in length, giving it an elongated silhouette and a low, dynamic front end.
A newly installed laser-beam welding machine at the Leipzig plant supports tailgate assembly for this model, aligning with the vehicle’s sleek rear design. Standard across all 2 Series models is BMW’s wide kidney grille, which will offer an illuminated option beginning in 2025.
The new model features a leather-free interior with BMW’s signature Curved Display and reengineered seats for increased comfort on extended journeys. Available color options span two solid colors, seven metallic finishes, four BMW Individual colors, and an optional high-gloss black contrast roof.
The top-end model, the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupé, is equipped with a 221kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine, delivering impressive performance while maintaining efficient fuel and CO2 emissions ratings. Additional engine choices include one petrol and two diesel options.
BMW Plant Leipzig has expanded capacity since 2018, allowing production volumes to reach 350,000 vehicles annually, supported by night shifts in assembly and new job creation. Since late 2023, the plant’s capacity was boosted by the inclusion of the MINI Countryman, making Leipzig the only BMW Group plant worldwide to produce BMW and MINI vehicles on the same line.
