Mazda and Honda are taking cautious steps into the electrified vehicle market with the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV and 2024 Honda Prologue, both priced around $60,000.
The CX-70 PHEV offers a plug-in hybrid setup combining a 2.4-liter I-4 engine with an electric motor, delivering 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds, with an all-electric range of 25 miles and a total range of 490 miles.
Charging from empty on a Level 2 charger takes 2 hours and 20 minutes. The CX-70 shines with its sporty driving experience, precise steering, and engaging performance, though it feels sluggish without battery power.

The Honda Prologue, an all-electric SUV, provides 288 hp and 333 lb-ft from its dual-motor setup and also hits 60 mph in 6 seconds. It has a 273-mile range, though in real-world tests it achieved about 230 miles.
Charging from 5% to 80% on a Level 3 charger takes 46 minutes. While smooth and quiet on the road, the Prologue lacks the driving excitement of the Mazda and suffers from some vague steering.
Design-wise, the CX-70 sports sleek lines and a more upscale interior with soft-touch materials and Nappa leather, offering plenty of rear-seat space and impressive cargo capacity (75.3 cubic feet with the seats down). The Prologue, though stylish, feels less premium inside, with more hard plastics and a design borrowed from GM’s Blazer EV. Cargo space is smaller at 54.5 cubic feet.
In terms of technology, both models include large digital displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but Mazda’s setup feels more polished, featuring Amazon Alexa and a head-up display.
Safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping are standard on both, though the Mazda offers superior safety confidence with its iActivsense package and IIHS Top Safety Pick rating.
Ultimately, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV offers better performance, interior quality, and versatility, making it a stronger choice compared to the less dynamic 2024 Honda Prologue.
